The Costa Calida / Murcia
The Costa Calida is renowned for its fine blue flag beaches and untouched coastline and countryside. The fishing ports and villages with a backdrop of rugged mountains make it a favorite for those seeking the peacefulness of an older style Spain.
San Pedro del Pinatar and Lo Pagan begins the curve of the largest saltwater lake in Europe known as the Mar Menor, famed for it’s mud bathing areas with therapeutic and healing qualities. The 170 square kilometer surface of the lagoon where the waters are a maximum depth of 7 meters make this a favorite tourist destination for the Spanish. The bustling San Pedro market held once a week is bursting with colour variety from locally produced fruit and vegetables, to clothes and ceramics.
Centrally located in the Mar Menor and only minutes from the airport of San Javier lays Los Alcazares with its 7 kms of beaches, traditionally a fishing village it now thrives on a service from the tourism industry. The 21kms of land known as La Manage separates the Mediterranean Sea from the lagoon of the Mar Menor.
La Manga not only has a mixture of restaurants, discos and hotels but boasts a multitude of water sports facilities and sailing clubs. The activities offered on land equal the variety on the water, with international golf courses, 10 tennis clubs and a centre for professional football.
Traveling south towards Mazarron the unspoilt sea views of La Managa give way for small coves and sandy palm beaches set with a spectacular backdrop of rugged mountains. Pretty fishing harbours and quaint villages such as L´azohia and Isla Plana sit in harmony with modern golf courses.
Mazarron has a natural unspoilt beauty all of its own. Traditionally a mining town it is now a major horticultural area, producing tomatoes, melons and green beans. The various mountains ranges surrounding the bay provides a micro climate invariably resulting in better weather than the rest of Spain. The pleasant promenade along the Port of Mazarron with its bars and restaurants overlooking the town’s beaches makes a perfect setting.
The vast expanse of land between the coastal resorts and the impressive historic city of Murcia is fast becoming a sought after area. With exclusive golf resorts and properties of a high standard found in pockets of the cities outskirts.
